Winter in Byron Bay is truly magical with the clear sunny days made ever more brilliant by the ongoing spectacle out to sea. As the saying goes “our favourite visitors return every year” and they seem to enjoy the winter sunshine as much as we do!
Byron, and its surrounding areas offer many amazing vantage points to see the whales in all their glory. Cape Byron Lighthouse is obviously a great place to start. Its furthermost easterly aspect creates near panoramic views, amplifying your chances of spotting a pod.
If you feel like venturing further from town, the coastline between Ballina and Lennox Head has multiple lookouts offering uninterrupted views out to sea. Try Angel’s Beach or Flat Rock.
And of course, if you prefer to meet our aquatic friends in their own territory, there are many local boating companies offering whale watching experiences from the water. Ask our friendly staff and they can book a tour for you and your family, and arrange pick up from directly out the front of Bayview. The tours go for about 2-2.5 hours. You can also book your Whale Watching Byron Bay tour here.
